The Giles County Public Service Authority
The Giles County Public Service Authority (PSA) was formed in 1992. The PSA serves Giles County residents by providing solid waste collection and disposal, recycling programs, and supplying water to all five towns and Giles County. It is owned and operated by the county of Giles and the towns of Narrows, Pearisburg, Pembroke, Rich Creek, and Glen Lyn. It is managed by a board of directors appointed to represent the towns and county. The PSA Board of directors meet on the 2nd Thursday of each month at 5:00pm in the Conference room at the Convenience Center.
Convenience Center
Large items (furniture, mattresses, etc.) can be disposed of at the PSA Convenience Center located on Route 460 in the Hoges Chapel area outside Pembroke. The service is free to Giles County residents except for the items listed below:
- Automobile and truck tires up to 19” - $1.50 per tire
- Tires over 19” - $3.00 per tire
- Tractor tires - $25.00 per tire
- Brush and tree debris - $1.00 per 100 pounds
- Construction debris and carpet - $3.25 per 100 pounds
- White goods with Freon - $10.00 each
- White goods without Freon - $5.00 each
In addition to curbside trash collection, the PSA has several dumpster sites throughout the county. These sites are open 24 hours a day for regular household garbage only. They are:
- Pembroke – at the PSA Convenience Center
- Newport – Winding Way Road
- Bluff City – near Marshall Concrete
- Klotz – (Big Stony Creek) near old rock quarry
- Lurich – near Narrows Livestock Market
- White Gate – on Route 4
Roll-off Service
The PSA can deliver a 30 cubic yard roll-off to your property and pick it back up when you are finished. This way, you would not have repeated trips to the Convenience Center. Call for rates and availability.
Recycling
The PSA provides several recycling containers throughout the county. They are located:
- All Dumpster sites
- All Giles County Schools
- Narrows – Anna’s Restaurant, Burger King, Reece’s Building Supply, Super Val-U Grocery.
- Newport – Hilltop Grocery and Super Val-U Grocery.
- Pearisburg – Dairy Queen/Clover Dew, Dollar General, Friends and Family Restaurant, Ingram Furniture, Newberry Ford, Dollar Tree, Sears, Texaco/Subway, Wendy’s, and C&P Discount.
- Pembroke – Pembroke Stop-n-Save, Southern Tank, Tickles, Dollar General
- Rich Creek – Dairy Queen, Burger Boy, Texaco/Subway, Super-Aid Pharmacy, Webco Supermarket, Dollar General.
Holiday Schedules
New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving (Thursday and Friday), Christmas Eve, Christmas Day
Trash service for weeks when there is a Holiday will be moved up by one day. (For instance: Monday’s trash will be picked up on Tuesday, Tuesday’s trash will be picked up on Wednesday, etc.)
